Festival weeks have a rhythm. The first few days go to shopping, visits and calls. Then the house quietens, the mithai box runs low and the binge begins: a series marathon, a gaming session that runs past midnight, reels until the thumb protests. POCO has built the pitch for the M8 Power 5G around that second half of the festival, and its tagline says so: Power Your Binge.
The phone leads with an 8,000mAh battery. Behind it sit an AMOLED display, a 45W charger in the box and a software promise that runs six years on security updates. Here is what that adds up to in a real festive week.
Battery advantage: power for the whole binge
POCO M8 Power carries an 8,000mAh (typical) battery that POCO describes as EV-grade silicon-carbon (Sil/C) technology. The smartphone offers up to three days of power on a single charge.
The more useful numbers are POCO’s single-app figures, which turn a big capacity into scenes you recognise. The company lists about 28 hours of nonstop video playback, about 14 hours of uninterrupted gaming and about 31 hours of social scrolling. Continuous navigation comes to about 11 hours, which matters at Diwali, when the drive home can swallow a whole day of maps, music and calls. Standby is listed at about 38 days.
Longevity gets a number too. The battery is TÜV-certified, and POCO says it retains 80% of its capacity even after 5 years. For a phone you plan to carry through several Diwalis, that is the line worth remembering.
Most affordable AMOLED display: made for festival nights
POCO M8 Power is the most affordable phone with an AMOLED display. Its own comparison puts an AMOLED panel beside an LCD, and the AMOLED side is the more vivid one.
The panel measures 17.75cm (6.9 inches) at 2396 × 1080, with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and touch response of up to 240Hz. Colour covers 100% of DCI-P3, and the display is tuned for OTT apps, so the festival film you save for the weekend should look the part. Peak brightness reaches 1800 nits (multi-scenario) with 1200 nits in high brightness mode, and Sunlight Display is there for reading a map or a payment confirmation at a market stall in the midday glare.
The night-time list is just as long. The display is TÜV Rheinland certified for eye protection, with a low blue light hardware solution and circadian-friendly tuning, plus 960Hz PWM with DC dimming and adaptive colour temperature. That suits the binge that continues after the family has gone to bed. Wet Touch 2.0 promises accurate touch response even with wet or oily fingers, a small mercy when you are scrolling through a recipe with hands deep in mithai prep. An in-display fingerprint sensor handles unlocking.
Charging: a bigger battery with a charger to match
The M8 Power supports 45W wired fast charging, and a 45W charger comes in the box, so there is no accessory to buy separately. POCO’s own line is about 8 hours of charge from just 10 minutes plugged in. There is also 22.5W wired reverse charging. With a cable, the phone can top up another phone or an accessory, handy when a cousin’s battery drops to 3% just before the group photo.
Design and durability: built for festive chaos
Festive weeks are hard on phones. Dusty cleaning drives, kitchen splashes, hands full of sweets. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and POCO lists IP65 dust and water resistance.
The back has a premium matte finish with a metallic-finish middle frame, and the phone comes in Blaze Orange, Green and Black. The body measures 169.70mm by 79.14mm and is 8.4mm thick. At 225g it is not a light phone, which is the honest trade-off for a battery this size.
Durability is also about how long the software lasts. The M8 Power ships with Android 16 and Xiaomi HyperOS 3, with 4 generations of Android updates and 6 years of security updates. POCO calls it the segment’s best upgrade promise and pairs it with longer device life and better resale value. Buy it this Diwali and it should still be getting security patches from several Diwalis from now.
Festive pricing and overall value
Price aside, the everyday kit is stronger than a battery-led pitch suggests. A Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor on a 4nm process delivers an AnTuTu score of 630K+, according to POCO. Memory is LPDDR4X with UFS 2.2 storage, and the RAM goes up to 16GB including 8GB of virtual RAM. A 10,416 mm² graphite cooling area is there to hold performance steady without throttling, and POCO talks of 48 months of lag-free usage. The phone comes with Circle to Search and Gemini, so a rangoli pattern or a lehenga spotted mid-reel can be searched without leaving the app.
The cameras suit the season. The 50MP AI dual rear camera uses a Light Fusion 400 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 5P lens, and AI scene detection adjusts settings for the shot. Auto Night Mode is aimed at diya-lit evenings, AI Eraser can remove a stranger from the family photo, and AI Sky can fix a grey festival afternoon. The 8MP front camera handles the group selfies.
Support is the last piece of value. POCO lists more than 700 service centres across India, 600+ cities covered and 19,000+ serviceable pincodes, with 92%+ of repairs completed the same day.
Add it up and the M8 Power’s case is plain: a large battery, an AMOLED display, a charger that ships with the phone and software support that runs for years. The festive price decides how strong that case gets.
